This will be my first car I'm building for 2012 by far the cleanest car I've ever seen. It will be running to noweld rules I can weld my front bumper to the frame and weld my drivers door. I'll be running the stock motor and tranny if they both work well. So far I've gotten the tires I'll be using in the derby. I'm gonna start stripping it out in the next week or so. The entire frame is this clean.

Shorten front frame, then weld bumper on front. It prolly has the AOD tranny. Those are a 1-2 run use tranny and then they are junk. Use tranny cooler if allowed.

First how far do you shorten the frames in vics I've always heard don't cut? And I'm pretty sure it has an AOD tranny not 100% yet tranny cooler will be used I mite try cold tilting it since our judges aren't very observant and I heard these dump real hard in front of the humps so im gonna try running a gas tank protector right against the back seat area to try and prevent this.

You don't cut the front on fords you only cut merc fronts

We cut the front frames shorter on all 80s fords. You shorten the front frame by pulling the bumper shocks out of the frame, then cut a couple inches off the square frame up front. Place the bumper shocks back inside the frame and weld bumper to the now shortened front frame. I like to get the bumper close to the radiator, but not touching.
Some people still prefer to leave the front frames a bit longer, so the bumper sticks out further and when making hits nothing gets near the radiator.
Its all up to your driving style and local competition.

might be building this car for an indoor show in amarillo tx in late november so i started stripping it out today got the trunk tore apart the seats out and the carpet out not a bit of rust. if i go out tomarrow im going to switch the front tires to the rear and the rear tires to the front and see how high the front end sits. then if i have time im going to take the bumpers off and put the front bumper on the back and see how well a 75 imp rear bumper fits on there

Spin the bumper shocks in place, so the plates sit higher up before bolting a bumper back on.

Ya, turn them so the taller side is up. gives you a little more bumper height.

well one of the back fenders creased, got the vinal top off, put the front bumper on the back, and flipped the front shocks over for some height. hopefully get a bumper put on next and figure out if im going to run the stock 302 or put a 318 mopar in it. i was also debating taking this to an old iron derby that you can weld firewall forward and tilt. hopefully will figure out what is going on here in the near future. if anyone has any tips please post them this is the first 80s ford me or my dad have ever built.
