Modified Heat
DRIVERS AND PIT CREW MEMBERS
1. Drivers must be at least 16 years of age. Drivers 16 & 17 yrs. of age must provide a notarized permission slip from
their legal guardian to participate (The form is on the back side of entry form).
2. All drivers must fill out an entry form and return to the fair board office with payment.
3. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license.
4. Drivers may have their own number with paid pre-registration. Numbers are on a first come, first serve basis. Fair
office will notify driver if multiple numbers occur to either add a letter behind number or pick new number.
5. Everyone requesting a pit pass must sign a release waiver.
6. Entry fees and pit passes are non-refundable.
7. No drugs or alcohol of any kind are permitted anywhere on fairgrounds. Any driver or pit crew member believed to
be under the influence will be immediately disqualified and may be prohibited from future events.
8. No switching of drivers allowed.
9. Any misconduct or breaking of the rules will also result in disqualification at the discretion of the officials.
10. Official’s decisions are final!
VEHICLE TYPE
1. Any American made hardtop, 2 or 4 door, automobile or station wagon is permitted.
2. NO trucks, jeeps, hearses, ambulances, limousines, 4x4’s, or utility vehicles.
3. Full frame Imperials are allowed.
PREPARATION
1. All glass; including windshield, side & rear windows, head & taillights, and marker lights must be removed.
Rolling down windows is not permitted.
2. Sunroofs must be covered with sheet metal and properly secured.
3. All exterior chrome molding strips, hubcaps, emblems, wiper arms, plastic grilles, outside door handles, and
plastic or fiberglass header panels must be removed before entering fairgrounds.
4. All carpeting, interior molding strips, rear seats, headliners, inner door panels, and any other flammable material
must be removed before entering fairgrounds.
5. Dash boards are optional.
6. Vehicles must be swept free of all debris.
7. No profanity of any kind allowed to be painted on vehicle.
8. Drivers door must be painted white with your number painted clear and visible or you must run a roof sign. Roof sign is highly recommended. This will be a mandatory rule next year.
INTERIOR AND BODY
1. One battery, any size permitted. Must be securely mounted to floor and covered.
2. Push buttons permitted must be clearly marked in plain view. NO loose wiring, PLAYING with wiring is considered
sandbagging!
3. Original fuel tank must be removed and replaced with marine type, plastic or steel tank and securely mounted to
rear floor and covered. Maximum 8 gallon per heat.
4. All fuel lines must be secured clamped & leak-proof. Any car leaking fuel will result in disqualification.
5. Electric fuel pumps are permitted, but must have a visible shut-off switch and in plain view for safety.
6. Doors must be fastened shut by wire, chain, banding or welding. Maximum 3” x ¼” wide strips. Any
door that comes open will result in disqualification. It is highly recommended that the driver’s door be reinforced.
7. Rust holes be patched with no thicker than 14 gauge sheet metal.
8. It is MANDITORY that a 4-point type safety cage be placed in driver’s compartment.
9. Bars not to exceed 4” diameter or square. One (1) bar horizontal across dash and one (1) bar horizontal behind seat. Two (2) adjoining
bars, perpendicular to dash and seat bar, to attach them together. End plates not to exceed 12” square, and can not exceed 6” past the drivers seat. Bars must be securely welded. Bars may not attach to frame in anyway. No kickers.* Gas tank protector may be used but can not connect or touch any other part of the car (attach to seat bar only). There must be at minimum 10” between door and protector, and 2” between back decking and protector. NO KICKERS !!!
10. Roll-over bar is permitted and must be attached to safety cage only!
11. Rubber body mounts may be replaced with maximum 3/4” bolts and 3” washers and solid mounted to frame in factory location.
12. Must have 2 window bars in windshield. Flat stock (3” wide max by ¼” thick) or chains may be used. You may have 1 rear window bar, flat stock or chain.
13. You may cut wheel wells for clearance. You can bolt wheel wells with 3/8 bolts 1” washers in 5 places per wheel.
HOOD, DECK LID, AND TAILGATE
1. Hood must have a10” hole cut to either side of carburetor, unless using headers.
2. Fuel injected cars must have a 6” hole cut above fuel injection unit.
3. Headers must point straight up.
4. Hoods must be open for inspection and then fastened shut by #9 wire, banding, bolts or chain. Two (2) strands of wire
per hole. Maximum 6 locations. Two (2) locations may run from hood to bumper with wire, chain, or banding . If using bolts they can not exceed 3/4 x 2”. Angle iron can not exceed 3” x 3”.
5. Deck lids and tailgates may be fastened shut by wire, banding, welding, chain or bolting in 6 locations. Bolts must used same as hood. If welding, you may weld solid with 3” by ¼” plates. Deck lid must remain in stock location and have a 10 inch inspection hole. You may pre bend or wedge 8” max.
6. You may use up to 1” ready rod 2 places that go threw the frame at your core support. 4” by ¼ “ plate or washer. You may also do this in the rear threw trunk. 2 places only.
CHASSIS AND FRAME
1. Frames cannot be reinforced or strengthened in anyway whatsoever!! NO loaded frames!! Frames will be checked
thoroughly!!
3. Pre-ran frames may be repaired at minimum !!!! Not extra metal added. 1 pass per tear. Max 8 places on frame.
4. Notching is permitted.
5. Frame seams may be welded no wider than ¼” Firewall forward. Top seams only!! This will be strictly enforced!!
6. Official’s decisions on frame are final!!
7. Trailer hitches must be removed.
8. No special bumpers. 9. Bumper may be welded solid to frame but cannot re-enforce frame in anyway! No added steel.
Only factory mounts may be used.
10. A chain must be wrapped around bumper. Chains may be bolted or welded to frame.
Suspension
1. Leaf conversions 7 springs 60'' long max 2 1/2 wide 5/16 thick max 1" stagger required, , welding rear shackle allowed shackles may be no larger than 8 ''long x 3'' wide ¼ thick . Front spring mounts to be no larger than 6''long 3'' wide ¼ thick all bolts for conversion not to be larger than 3/4 no welding on springs . No duct tape on springs. clamp size 2'' wide ¼ thick 8 per car allowed
2. Rear ends may be 8 lug.
3. Hump plates may be used if you do not Convert your leafs. 1/4 thick 4"wide 24" long only 2 per car. it can be welded solid , must be welded to the outside rear frame rails only, somewhere above the rear axle . 4. You may use 4 leaf clamps per side (2 in front of axel and 2 behind=4 per side).
5. You may chain your humps. Frame rail to axle only. 1 chain per side.
6. You may reinforce tie rods and control arms.
7. You may lock front suspension. 1 place per side.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
1. Any motor/ transmission combination is permitted.
2. Motor and transmission mounts may be chained or welded, so long as it does not strengthen the frame in anyway.
3. Hand throttles permitted.
4. Shifting linkage may be altered.
5. Air cleaner mandatory. No either allowed.
6. Transmission coolers are permitted and must be placed behind driver’s seat. All lines must be securely clamped
and leak-proof.
7. Distributor protectors and Engine protectors will be permitted !!! NO KICKERS TO THE DASH BAR WILL BE ALLOWED!!! You may use an engine cradle if you are swapping motors.
8. Gas tank protectors may be used but CAN NOT touch any part of the car. It must be free floating. Must be attached to rear seat bar and must have a minimum of 10” from rear doors or body of the car and must have at least 2” between protector and rear panel.
