We've used garage cable and that works good. Thinner wire also worked for us especially to get it started but that broke on us several times. Window never broke using either of them.

an old lawn mower throtle cable i think is what i used and the window came out with out breaking

I'd say go with a split sponsorship with a local auto-glass company. Tell them you'll slap them on your car for window removal and a few bucks. Worked well for me last year

id rather clean up a little glass than spend $500+ on a sawzall with a different blade...razor knife works too...just takes a little longer

I use the hood latch cable it's free and on every car lol ;D
