We have a 1993 Jeep Cherokee that we were going to sell for scrap. However, the derby down in Bellefontaine Ohio on April 16th will let them run against the mini trucks. I have heard mixed reviews and was wonder how you guys feel it would hold up against the Rangers, s-10's, dakotas, etc?
I plan to run it anyway, but any advice to help it hold up would be greatly appreciated. I know the rear gate is fiberglass, so that will need to be removed. Also looking to put car bumper on the front and weld the susp. solid.

Thanks etownrdnck! I think it would hold up pretty well if we build it right and elimante all the factors that are agianst us. Unibody being one, short front end, and mixed metal rear. With a little modifications, pulling the rear tight together, hopefully it will let me put on a show for the fans.

When I ran at bellafontaine last year, they didn't hardly look at our cars at all,,,, and we were from out of town and running in 80 and newer. I think you could get away with some serious welding there.

Thats what I'm planning. The truck rules allow a lot of welding in the rear and I intend to do as much as possible to get that rear end from blowing apart. You running there this year?

I ran one and the front held up great. The core pushed against the motor and would not move after that. The rear was soft (fiberglass tail gate). I locked mine in 4 low and pushed the 1 ton trucks a suburbans all over the track like they weren't even there. Been running 18 years and that was one of my favorite heats.

Do you have any pics you could post on here or send to me at all4himracing@embarqmail.com? I would love to see how the truck held up and where it bent. I knew the rear hatch was fiberglass. To keep it from breaking apart and flying around inside, I am thinking of running without it. I was thinking about pulling the sides in some to center the sheet metal, but am still trying to figure out what would be the safest and strongest solution. Any advice on this?

i think a process like sedagon it or wedge would work

That is something else I was thinking. I'll come up with a few more ideas, then give the promoter a call and see what will pass and pick the best one. I like the sedagon technique, really would offer the best strength in this application.

I might be able to find some pics but it was a stock build. Chain and go type of thing. I built it in just 2 days. It bent at the seam under the rear seat. I did not have a cage in it. I think a low 4 point cage would of helped alot.
