Anyone have any tips for breaking in a new engine?
For those of you who don't know me, I have a 398w stroker .60 over. 10 1/4 -10 1/2 compression I was told by the engine shop.
I was told not to use synthetic oil.I bought a case of amsoil synthetic with lots of zinc in it prior to hearing this.
I was told to just use some cheap everyday oil. But I heard zinc is what u want for a break in?
I can't possibly get 500 miles of runtime on my motor before my first derby with tuning etc.First derby in June. And I think the gas would be expensive running premium not doing anything with the motor like having it in a daily driver.
Any tips for breaking in a engine in a relatively short period of time? Should I heat cycle the engine etc.other thoughts / ideas?

Started this beast up the other day.Runs like a champ.Started up on first try.Didn't let it run long Didn't have everything in place yet just checking for leaks etc.But boy is this a screamer.Next time I'll have to wear some ear plugs. ;D I put a timing light on it when I rev it up the timing jumped to other side of the tape past a certain rpm.Maybe pickup was hitting another plug wire? But it seemed to have the correct total timing at half throttle.36° total 8 initial.Thoughts ideas?
