I'm also gonna run a couple pieces of big althread or bolts from side to side through the Y to hold it together.

What do you guys think about the steering column in this car? It doesnt have a rag joint so should I just leave it alone, or should I unbolt it from the floor so it is just free floating in there so when she starts to bend at the firewall it dont get bound up. I weld a big u-bolt around the column to the dash bar on my cage to hold it in. Just lookin for input.

I like the look of the frame! As far as the steering column goes, I like your idea to allow it to float. But I have never tried it so I don't have any facts or proof to back it up. However, it seems like a reasonable plan that would eliminate one more thing from possible going wrong. Room for travel is always a safe bet.

it looks good as far as the frame goes just hope that your y's and those bolts don't rip the y like my bolts did but I also didn't use the bracket like your doing I'm kinda curious to see how that works for ya? As for the steering goes thats a good idea to do I didn't do that in my 68 fury and my steering went it broke right at the steering box where it bolts to the box I think your floating steering column is a good idea

Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll try that, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. I should probably run those bolts on the column loose also huh. Maybe not take them all the way out but just loosen em up a bit. I'm just wondering cause the track I'm takin it to, last year was really dry no mud at all, so the cars bent up real fast so I want to be able to keep my steering as long as my car will run. Thats what kept me out of the main last year was my steering got bound up in the firewall. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lV2B3xyaaLU. Mine is the 316 car yellow 1980 newport.
