Quote Author = pipesrmylife what do you guys prefer to run/watch-stock or full weld derbies? i prefer the stock because i like to see the cars bend. true welded derbies sometimes have bigger hits but im for the bendage of the metal

i like stock derbys more cuz i like to see the bending of the cars and see how tuff the cars are and who is the best driver, altho a welded derby is kind of a treat every now and then

I like the stock derbies because it widens the chance of any driver winning. You also get to see how the car bends naturally without any forces acting against it. Don't forget the pure enexpected carnage of pieces blowing off cars, tires flapping, and hoods or trunks being ripped off.

I like both and I run both but I like our semi weld show here in ny I run I get more then one run out of a car but the stock show I like cause its a quick build most of the time both are fun to watch when the drivers are actually puting some hard hits on

I would have to say stock derby.....because of the metal-twisting,bone-jarring,crunching,smashing,car trashing mayhem!! sounds like derby song verses...lol

i do enjoy watching a welding show...only problem is that theyre pretty scarce around my area. closest one switched to association rules last year but i didnt get to it. however i did make it the last year it was a welding show and by far the coolest part of it was the 80's heat

only derbies i hate to run are the ones that dont let you run a dash bar (dayton)or jm productions ;D I run one or 2 JM shows each year at the end of the season just for a quick build and a nice change. I build for full weld shows all winter and it is nice to just throw something together and go have fun. I will also only run compacts there, the figure 8s are fun. I would rather build and drive a welded car any day, I love backing away from a trackshot without a dent ;D

i've heard a lot about jmproductions...where all do they run...? who are they exactly? They run shows all over the east coast, mostly ny and pa. Fullsize rules are the closest to stock I have ever seen (no posi or welded rearends : Their compact figure 8s are fun but I would never run a fullsize there. They are the promotor for both ny and pa state fairs

no welded rearends???,,,, thats a little much And 4 ply tires no aggresive tread. Fullsize cars have a weight limit. Batteries stay under the hood. Luminas took 1st and 2nd of 70 some cars 2 years ago at NY State Fair. Full size cars getting beat by bone stock compacts, wish they would let me run my welded up compacts against fullsize ;D Here are a few of the rules... 9. CARS PERMITTED: a. Any two or four door, hardtop, stock 2-wheel drive car or 1980 and newer station wagons weighing between 2,600 and 4,800 pounds is permitted (Weight source- NADA Used Car Guide or bluebook) with the exception of Chrysler Imperials, 4 x 4s, T-tops, Camaros, Firebirds and El Caminos of ANY weight are NOT permitted. c. Each car must have the original, complete dashboard and VIN number. 14. DIFFERENTIALS: Cars with locked, welded, modified posi-traction or modified limited slip differentials are ILLEGAL. TEST OF STOCK DIFFERENTIAL: With one wheel jacked up and the other wheel on the ground, wheel must rotate 360 degrees with transmission in neutral or driveshaft removed. a. One car battery (6 or 12 volt only) solenoid, voltage regulator, computer electronics, may be relocated, provided they remain under the hood and forward of the front firewall. 19. EXHAUST PIPES: MUST remain STOCK and extend beyond the drivers seat. 22. GAS TANK: a. MUST be stock and remain in original position (unless otherwise noted on entry). Factory tanks located inside the vehicle will not be permitted. b. MUST be chained or wired up through the car or trunk floor. c. No more than 3 gallons of gasoline permitted. d. There MUST be a sheet metal screw in the fuel tank that can be easily removed to check fuel level. This screw must be inserted on one side of the gas tank, three (3) inches up from the lowest part of the tank. e. A protective cover (rubber, metal or plastic) no thicker than 3/16 inches, may be placed around the gas tank secured by a chain or wire. (Reinforcement is for the gas tank protection only. The plate or cover cannot be secured to the frame or any other part that would strengthen the car.) f. Gas line may be replaced with new rubber gas line providing it remains under the car.

I like the stock derbies more, like my dad use to run a while back. But the sad thing these days is the stock and welded go together because people like to bend the rules a lot.

I have ran "stock" shows where they told us at the driver's meeting that is was our job to find anything illegal on someone's car not the tech inspectors. One of the reasons I prefer weld shows.

Full weld for me, just because I like to get multiple runs out of a vehicle. For the money invested in rust free stuff you just have to. That and I like to drive hard. ;D
