I run one cause I don't trust the longevity of the battery. Never know when i'll need that full charge to turn the engine over.

I don't run one just another thing in the way on the motor and another belt to run I've got a good batt. but I also run tork reduction starters on all my cars don't nealy take as much charge from the batt.

Can't vote here I use both, My old 350 has a good alternator so I run it, But gropp motors come with no accesory holes in the heads so u can't run one. I dont use electric fans, my tranny cooler is a icebox style, and I use a high torque mini starter. These things all help me to conserve power. But if Im not running an alternator I always run 2 batteries

I have been looking at solor battery chargers, Thinking my car could get a trickle charge while im waiting for my heat, or even while its on the trailer

seen many derbies won without one. Bob whitaker won metal mayham last year without one and that feature was well over an hour. What really kills your battery is starting your engine, the real trick is keeping your motor running after a hit, most of this has to do with timing and carburator setup
but as i said if the motor has one on it you might as well run it, just be sure to run a seperate belt to just harmonic balencer pully and fan/waterpump pully, these short belts may twist and flip over but will usually stay on and work. Water and fan are prolly more benefical than an alternator
I have decided to vote No just because you really dont need one

Turn your idle up if your scared your motors gonna die IMO....I ran with one every time before but its one more thing to slow the motor down and I burnt up part of the harness going to it so I took it off on the car I have now.

i run one, i also run two batt.s ones a big marrena boat batt. with crazy cranking amps, then the other is a normal car batt. my tranny fan, is hooked to the car batt. and the starter is set to the boat batt. both are run to the alt. after a derby even if i bust the alt. belt early and have a few starts they are both always still charged very hot...
