I'm sure theres some of you that edit your videos (derby vids or whatever) before uploading them to youtube or making dvds. What program do you use? I recently got a hd camera and have been working on a time lapse video for 307ci's youtube channel and have tried out several programs but i havent been thrilled by any one. ive used movie maker (very simple but lacks some advanced features i like and also doesnt support .mov which is what my camera records in). adobe premiere elements is the most user friendly but again doesnt support .mov but is probably my favorite-only problem is that i lose video quality if i convert my video to a format that the program accepts. cyberlink powerproducer has tons of features/transitions/effects but i cant stand how to arrange clips on the timeline you cant move them to whereever you please all the clips must line up. sony vegas-hardest program ever for taking just a certain piece of a clip and is so plain looking. so if anyone has tried anything else or would list their preference for these programs id really appreciate it before i waste $$$$$$ on a program im not so thrilled about

There are 2 different kinds of movie makers out there now.
Windows Movie Maker: Which does not support .mov files but is very easy to use. This is what I used for almost all of my videos. Although I have added some coding into the files to make more features and effects on mine.
Windows LIVE Movie Maker: This one DOES support .Mov files. It also has some transitions and effects that the other movie maker doesnt have. The only thing I do not like about this one is that it is slower to edit things and doesnt arrange clips as easy. This video editer also allows you to place titles anywhere on the screen with click and drag ease. The other movie maker has only preset locations for titles.
Both of these are free to download.
Both of my cameras I use for video recording start out in .Mov format. I convert all my video footage that needs edited to .Avi format. For converstion software I first used Prism video convertor, which lasts for 30 free uses or something like that. It can be found at downloads.com Very easy to use.
The 2nd and in my opinion BEST FREE video convertor I use is called "Free Video Convertor v2.5.0.0" It was also found on downloads.com This convertor has some advanced features on it. Once you figure them out, you can convert your videos from .mov to .avi in HD format. The icon representing this video convertor looks like a blue film strip with a green arrow and red arrow.
Hit me up with any questions

ill have to find the name of the converter i used before but it reduced the quality of the video so i didnt want to convert my hd video. i hadnt heard of the windows live movie maker but may give that a try. without a doubt i would purchase adobe premiere elements if it supported mov. by far the easiest to use as moving clips, shortening clips, speeding up/slowing down video, and adding titles and text. im going to play around some more in my trial of vegas pro but i really dont like the text options and how to only use certain parts of the clip. once i get the music for the time lapse vid itll be complete and ill post a link to the vid on here

I've used Premier Elements before and liked it. I actually took a class on it in high school which is what got me going on filming derbies and making DVD's of them, and of putting together clips from our snowmobile ventures. Except my problem with it was is it didn't support the file type of my HD camera (.mov) but that was an older version I think it was version 3. I didn't want to convert file types as I had a horrible reduction in video quality so that's why I didn't consider it much. I downloaded a trial of Premiere CS5 and holaaaay it is amazing. I actually did one derby video in it and it turned out really good but it won't let me burn to DVD's since its a trial version which I should've expected. Too bad the CS5 is a couple hundred bucks even with my student discount or else I'd have it. I've seen Elements, along with Photoshop, on sale sometimes for $50 so I might take another look at that and see if it now works with my camera. If it does I'll probably go that route.
