I just got the new rules for one of the derbies i run,and a newly added stipulation is NO wheel weights! I must be losing my mind, but need to ask...why can't they be left on the rims?

cause when you spin your tires and get hit in the rims they bend and losen the weights so spinning the tires with lose weights theirs a possibility that they will fly off and hurt someone

oohhhh...that makes sense ;D besides wearing helmet, neck brace, long sleeves ,boots, gloves, and goggles...that keeps us from having to wear bullet-proof vests ;D

I got turned around last year for one on the inside of a non drive tire. I can understand not wanting them on drive tires though, one of those coming off at 30 could do some damage.

Really? damn ...but you gotta wonder exactly what the chances are of them actually becoming flying projectiles..know what i mean? I'm sure it could happen, but seems like a shot in the dark(no pun intended) ;D

well hell if you do the right thing and double your tires or tube depending on the rules if you take the wheels somewhere to be dismounted and wut not they will take them off b4 doin so and if you do it the back yard way they sometimes will fall off anyways

Yep, its to protect the spectators. you sign a waiver for your life when you register for the derby....its the fans that get hurt, sue, and cost millions. LOL

even though they should be forwarnd when they buy the tickets just like when i go to a nascar event the tickets say they are not liable for injurys and such due to the nature of the sport

I keep the wheel weights and melt them down to make sinkers for fishing.

I think this rule is mostly for the people flagging. When I inspect thats the first thing I look for especially on compacts. I sure as hell dont wanna get hit by one when I'm flagging........
