About half of the times I run, my headers end up loose at the end of the heat. Anyone else have this problem? I have tried using lock washers and still had them come loose , any ideas? And they always start out with every bolt tight. just something to throw out there i think yours gets lose quick because of them big rain caps you run.. That car was the first time I ran those headers or caps. They actually didn't come loose but, I also didn't run for very long. I got the rain caps after watching mayham last year and also seeing a derby on a dry sandy track. Your fine without them untill your car is dead and the sand dirt or water is falling right down your headers, has to be a depressing thing to watch from inside your car. Also took headers off of my brothers motor a couple weeks ago a pebble fell out

i'm building a set of headers covers that can be locked because of guys dropping things(nuts, bolts, dirt, stones) down into other drivers headers when no one is looking at the derbies.I thought of a way to do this by installing a rod through some brackets and either putting a bolt w/ a wing nut, or even a lock on it...then taking it off before the heat, and having one of my crew members take it back to the pits with them.....but the rain caps sound a lot easier. ;D

I have heard of guys doing crap at some derbies. never heard of it happening in my area though. Heard of dumping water in fuel tank, grabbing a handful of wires and pulling them out, etc. bunch of dicks.

ive heard of a few cases of it. dirt, water, whatever is at hand...the locking caps would be a sweet idea. actually wouldnt be that hard to do if you had rain caps on either

when i go to a derby some one always stays with the cars at all times as for the header bolt thing i cut out the plates that run in between the heads and use no gaskets bolted tight it takes away vibration and stress on the other bolts and stays tight for me most of the time

i got good four into ones and use dei protective plug boot covers and heat shielding and run my wires under the headers and down behind the block around the sides with summit 8mm build your own wires it costs about 70 bucks to do this but it also works well and one 3 ft piece of heat shield works just cut in half anouther tip i had seen on hot rod tv cover bolt in liquid ant acid tumms maylox and it is like lock tite takes heat and will not burn off
