ok to mount my 318 in my car i changed the oil pan from a front sump to a rear sump.....my problem is that i have put 7 quarts of oil in it and it hasn't touched the dipstick yet.....do i have to change the dipstick or the tube or do i have bigger problems?

you probly need a different dipstick, I'm not a mopar guy but unless its an oversize pan shouldn't take more then 5 1/2

If you took the pan off another motor you should use the same dip stick off the motor you took the oil pan from.I have a 351 that takes 7 1/2 quarts.

well bought the oil pan off someone and it didn't come with the dipstick i guess i will have to check with him to see if he has the dipstick

You need a different dipstick, I had that problem once too.

ok well its goin to be a bit till i get a dipstick so anyone have and idea on how much oil it should take?

Like 82 said I would start with 5 1/2 easier to add them take out ;D

i need a definate amount because i dont wanna run my engine on too little oil and i wanna get it runnin soon and i dont know when i will be able to get a dipstick

I would just start with 5 1/2, start it up, if there is no lifter tap your probly good. As long as its not tapping, you will be fine for test runs. Does thid pan apear to be stock from a 360? If it is call your local oil change place tell them a year and make and they should be able to tell you the exact amount.

its a stock pan off of an 85 dodge half ton van with a 318

put 5 1/2 in run it till it gets woarm then add another half of a quart total 6 quarts thats what we run and haven't had a problem hop that helps ya
