* I try to hit the other cars just ahead of the front wheels to take out the radiator. * Some good hits to the other guys wheels can take out his drive train. * When you hit another car try to hit squarely, your frame will bend quicker if you hit at an angle. * When you hit another car don't give in to the natural reflex to let off the gas, ease out of the gas slowly so your car won't stall. * Try to keep your drivers side towards your competitors, they are not allowed to hit on the drivers door. * If you can't avoid taking a hit, try to take it on the passenger side doors. This will do the least amount of damage to your car. * When you get hit try to keep your wheels spinning, this will allow your car to slide and therefore inflict less damage. * If you can't avoid a front end collision try to make your competitor hit you squarely. This will do the least damage to your front end. * Try to avoid using your front end for hitting until its down to the last 5 or 6 cars. Most importantly have fun! If you can't have fun beating the heck out of some old junkers, what can you have fun doing? I stay in throttle full bore even after the hit. I take a look behind me to make sure no one is coming, and if its clear I keep pushing towards the wall. You may get them hung up, or if they are stalled against the wall, the next hit is really gonna hurt. And I start out using my front and continue to do so all the way through the derby. i did that this year except hitting with the front. i ended up putting someone on the wall after the first hit lol he was so mad

Unless I'm ready to junk a car, I don't really hit with the nose in the beginning. I like to push with the front and hit with the back

no matter how many things i read and how many videos i watch, it just seems more natural to me to hit with the back than the front, its instinct for me, mostly cuz growing up i watched bad built cars derby so they always used the back so thats the way i was brought up

I usually try to save my front end for the feature heat (depending on the car i'm driving) But, it is very hard to stay cool ,calm, and composed at times when i see a good shot lined up on a longtime rival,or even a known sandbagger. ;D

You need to find a car to fit your driving style. If you like to hit with the front then get a mopar, newer ford, or suicide linclon. If you hit with the rear get a 70's GM or 58-64 ford.
You are more likely to break an axle if your wheels are spinning when you take a hit.

I prefer to run forwards no matter what Im in it always works good for me, when I first started drivein I tried to protect the nose but it always got hit right off so I decided to just use it instead of some one eles running into it

Before you dedicate to making a major hit , try to picture where you will be 20 seconds after that hit . Most importantly ...... grab the brakes when getting hit on the rear wheels . You need those axles to last .

A few things that work for me is to stay on the move if your making noise and moving around alot on the track the officals dont seem to keep track of you as much as if your in the corner bagging making minamal hits. Try to avoid the guys laying the big hits early on in the heat. And enjoy yourself getting mad and losing your cool will end your night early. TOM

TOM ^^^^X2 i have noticed a lot here with the stoney shows the guys who get mad and make all the big hits in the beginning end up getting knocked out early..... but this past year i was the one making a lot of the big hits the whole derby and placed third because the track was so muddy cause our heat was in the middle of a huge rain storm.... Why did i have to run up on top of the baracade and pop my own tire lol
