so your heat is about to come up and you are extremely nervous because this is your first time derbying this year. what runs through your mind and what do you do?
my friends just usually drop a few bombs in the nearest porta-potty.

well this is how it went for me...... all morning long i was just fine, i was fine in expection, i was even fine as i pulled the pickup into the pits, even went and talked to some ppl like nothing was goin on, then came time to unload the car off the trailer, i climbed in the car to back it off and i was shaking so bad that i could hardly even get in the car, i unloaded and was still nervous but then ppl were comin over and checkin out my car and talkin with me and i was getting better, well then the driver meeting rolled around and i was gettin nervous again, well i drew heat three so i was feeling better since i didnt have to run the first heat, well it came around time for me to get in my car to go line up for heats, luckily i got into a heat with 2 guys i knew pretty well, one is Montana on here, well anyway i pulled up at the gate to pull in and i was about to sh!t myself, but then i pulled into my spot and one of my best friends was sitting in the stands rite ahead of me smiling at me and all my nerves went away and i was pumped, then i shut off my car and since i was a local and everyone knew me and i had a huge cheering crowd, i heard ppl cheering for me and yelling my name just as i was pulling in, all nerves were gone and i was absolutley pumped, well the flag dropped and i had one thing on my mind and that was to impress all the ppl that were cheering for me... for me hearing my name over the loud speaker and hearing ppl yell my name and cheer when i made a hit was just as much of a rush as the actual derby itself.....

me its pretty much the same as 307 going there and while im their i wass perfectly fine as i was pulling into track i was so nervous i could get my helmet hooked lol. but after i was in the arena im all good especially after that first hit. but a normal thing before the heat for me is to sit with my car talk to some of my friends that are in the pits with me and they get me all pumped and all and then just relax and get focused on the derby as you would for a sporting game.

Hmm lets see derby day...all day long...i'll prolly piss every hour. Usually double check everything. Try to relax and walk around looking at the competition. If i'm stuck in a heat with a lot of tough cars then i'll be a lot more nervous.
I have a great pit crew though and they are starting to get used to the routine of things in the pits. So as soon as my car comes out of the heat they are grabbing tools and parts before i'm out of the car. That helps calm the nerves when your out there taking some hard hits, but you know you have people ready to help if something goes wrong.
On a side note* We've also learned not to pee on your tires on the derby car while building them.... The only flat tire i've had was the first and last one we ever pee'd on!

Nah, just a single stock tire. Still have every double i've ever made. Those things can take a beating.
