yeah, thats how i took it... and around here you would get hurt in it, but it all matters on what you are running against, like i said around here you wouldnt run that buick with the stock motor, would be a waste here, but if thats what you are running against then it will be just fine.

The way im building these cars, i am going to have a very big advantage over everyone else, no one has ever seem a demo car around here with the exhaust through the hood(everyones too cheap around here lol). Most leave the gas tanks in the stock location, stock tires, fuel injection. there mostly chain and go around here. Our rules are ok, id like to see some changes, everyone i run with is saying im putting too much effort into them, they go knock out the glass and strip the interior and run it.

( no joke ) I'll never let myself run a derby like that. Staying with the simpler stock and minor weld derbys keeps it cheap and fun. All depends if your in it for the win and money, or to have fun wrecking a car.

Our rules are ok, id like to see some changes, everyone i run with is saying im putting too much effort into them, they go knock out the glass and strip the interior and run it. thats pretty much how it is here. we just had our first derby in the past 4 or 5 years but before they stopped it was a big deal. imo the best show in the SW part of the state. theres the few cars that are built fairly good but most are exactly what you said...strip the interior, move the gas tank and battery inside, chain the hood and doors and go. some people (namely my classmates) dont run seat or dash bars "because they are for pussies". bumper shocks arent welded, stock tires left on, stock metal fans, no tranny coolers, stock rear-ends (not welding the spider gears is what i mean), and the list goes on and on. 307ci and i catch crap pretty much every day for "building a car". 307ci had found either a 1984 or 86 vic for sale like 200 miles away that runs and drives for a good good deal. well my parents just loved that idea so sounds like one of my classmates might get the car. well 307ci offered to help him build the car to its potential and he wanted nothing to do with it. told him the same as above...seat and dash bars are for pussies. and nothing pisses me off more (especially since i couldnt get the car) is to see a good car bought by someone who doesnt give a sh!t and doesnt put any effort into it at all when it will be entered into the highest-paying association derby in north dakota. end of rant. but i do understand the derbying for fun of it aspect but half the fun of it is building the car

I laugh everytime i sit in the pit and watch all of these cars that would have been very good cars built so shitty, a complete waste of a good car. the stock gas tank thrown in the back seat, interior half ass stripped, they spend more time worrying about the paint job than how the car is built. there was a car last year, had an awesome paint job, he pulled it out onto the track for the best appearance thing, the car died there, got towed out, went into his heat same thing car quit, and again in the consi. that car never once took or gave a hit.

i dont build to win, i build to compeat, i want to go out and last as long as posable, that way i get to do more damage... i like being able to weld and stuff like that, i like seting up at night thinking of new ways to get around the rules to make my trucks stronger and last longer... i love building my trucks to there full potentail, ive had the same truck, for 3 years now, 6 derbys (hard derbys at that) and i can go out and hit the push botton and it will fire up right now....

and in my rant i believe i forgot to add bumper swaps. a "teammate"-ill let 307ci debate about that term-got a 73 impala given to him this year. oil dipstick was missing and motor is locked up but tranny should be good yet. the guy that drove the torino last year has a chance to drive this impala if he can get it going and travis told him that has potential to be a good car because that year has one of the strongest front clips on it. all it needs is a different bumper and he said f*ck that. and travis even went and found him a 75 monte bumper for $50 and he wants nothing to do with it. same with this teammate who is running a 78 caprice...travis told him to take that junker aluminum bumper off for this 75 monte bumper and he doesnt want to either because "its not worth it". and let me say...cars are coming in harder and harder to find around here so why piss around and wreck your car right away by not building it right and then having to risk that benig your last derby for a couple years due to the inability to find another car.

I build every car to the full extent of the rules with the best parts I can get. When ever I have done something half ass, that is what ends up breaking. I prefer to have no regrets after the derby. Nothing is worse then bringing home a car that isn't wrecked because something stupid took you out early.

i mean yes i get it if your out for the fun of it. but if you want to have fun you have to build it at least to keep you in which will allow you to have fun. that reminds me of a guy a couple years ago that took a car the night before the derby and decided to smash it...shifter on the column and i believe he had the stock exhaust on it yet too lol...and this didnt have no pretty boy paint-job either lol
