The stuff I did today and didn't get pics of:
Installed a factory sure grip 3rd member in the rear with 5.13 gears. Bolted the axles in and set the end play.
Rear tires are on.
Installed a switch panel (haven't installed the switches yet)
Cut my plates and pipe for a seat bar.
Drank too much Miller Light.

Holy hell that is a big battery!! How much do those things cost new? I wouldn't even have enough room in some of my cars for that thing.

I don't know what they cost new. I grab them off of the oil rig. They get to the point where they can't turn over those huge diesel engines, but they'll still spin over a small block forever. They usually last me two years.

They usually last me two years. use one of those batteries for the company dump trailer they are anywhere frome $140-$220 new. Got the last one from O'reilys it was a refurbished one for $70! Never tried one in a car but we have been taking one along as a spare winch battery. Have also jumped a couple cars off one while sitting in the back of the truck.

My build is on hold......dammit! Went to replace my head gaskets and had a burnt piston....explains all the blow-by I had. I was hoping it was only a bad ring and would make it through the season. I had to drive the motor and trans 320 miles one way yesterday. The good news is, its all in the hands of a guy that builds some of the best derby motors I have ever seen. He has some good trans tricks too. I like every part of it....until I get the bill for it.

Got the chains on. The whole arguement that the local shows use about chaining up vs. welding is utter B.S.! They it allows for a cheaper build thats faster and easier. Well it took me all damn day to run my chains and it cost about 150 bucks. I can buy a lot of welding wire for that price. Chains suck.....

Pulled my heads to replace the head gaskets and found two burned pistons. The engine and trans are in Wyoming, in the very capable hands of a damn good derby motor builder. He makes a mean trans too with some swirl polishing that grips like no other. Forged flat top pistons, .030 over on the block, a little shaving here, some secret spice there.....and all built loose to take the heat. So, the motor and trans are back out of the car....

are you aloud to use #9 wire instead of chain? Its a lot cheaper. Works really well if you use enuff. Easier to get tight.

Yeah, you can use wire, but most rules say if you use wire on a panel, you have to stick with wire on that panel. And since I tied my subframe in with heavy high grade chain, I stuck with chain.
