it really depends on what we spend if we plan on running a show thats basically a chain and go show then we'll spend up to $250 on a car if we're running a weld show then I'll spend up to 600-700 on a car but it needs to be worth that... my brother on the other hand well for a weld show he'll spend anywhere between $500-$1,000 on a car for a weld show that to me is alot just to reck a car

It can also depend on other things too. For instance, I have nearly $6,000 into my Imperial this year. But most of that cost will be taken out of that car and stuck into the next one. Meaning, I had to build a new motor and trans this year.......as well as new carb, distributor, rearend, radiator, fuel cell, etc. But all that crap goes into the next car. Now I have a solid foundation to work with. The 10 years prior to this year I just bought running cars and tuned them up then junked them afterwards. This year I laid out the expense to get what I want and hopefully it will all last a few derbies.

I have a good bit of money into my drivetrain as well, but it goes into every car. Whether the car runs good or not, I pull the motor, tanny, and rearend every time. I just know and trust my setup. If your talking compacts though, especially for a beginner, find the cheapest best running car you can and go smash it. If you find a car you are interested in,, post the price, info, and pics if you have them, I will do my best to give honest advice on whether or not it is a good deal.

im only on my first year and already got about $900 into it, and i may never use the motor tranny and rearend again after this, paid $500 for the car and got about $300-$400 into the rest and only about $100 of it into the motor area, had to buy a starter and points dist. the rest went into bolts and gas tank and things like that

This sport is very easy to spend money in. there is always something else you can buy to make it that much better. But, at the same time I have had a hell of a lot of fun in $100 cars where the only parts I add is a boat gas tank and a roll of 9 wire.
