Never done a mini car before. Plannin on runnin this one at the end of Sept. at our local Fair derby. Pretty stock rules. no welding at all except for cage and doors. and that is it. no rigid suspension, Bumpers bolted/chained only. It was free.99 so i thought I'd throw it together and tear it up.

This car has been sitting where i got it from for around 6 or 7 years. so long it had a great big RAT living under the hood. when I opened it the thing scared the crap out of me. it was the size of a cat. Anyway good news. we put fresh battery in it and hotwired it. on acount there aren't any keys. and it fired right up and ran pretty good considering the gas that was in it had been there for at least 6 years. So put it in gear and it drives forward and backward with no hesitation. So I thought I would start strippin it this afternoon. I'll take pics as I go and post on here the progress. there isn't much we can do to the little cars. they want to keep the mini class as stock as possible.

The biggest thing on these cars is the trunk! That thing is going to want to plow. Tempos always seem to crush down and explode in the rearend. If your are allowed to prebend the back unibody I highly recommend it. Depending how much work you want to put into this car....take off the front fenders and see what is all underneath them. Some of these compacts have a lot of hidden spots you can weld or fold over and not be seen from outside.
Find out where the main computer box is and any other sensors and mount them on the firewall or inside the car.
Other than that, have fun and welcome to the compact world. There is still a LOT of experimenting going on in this side of the derby world.

I got this little beast all stripped out and everything moved away from the fenders. the fuel filter, sylinoid, all the wiring harnesses that sort of thin. got the fuel cell in and the battery box. it is pretty cool we took the stock fuel pump out of the tank, cut a hole in a spare boat tank we had layin around the shop and sunk the stock pump right down in that screwed it down and siliconed it and it works like a champ. I'll put some pics up pretty soon. gettin ready to go camping this weekend so I wont be working on it for about a week or so. I also took the stock aluminum skin bumper off the front and gonna mount a rear from a late 70's mercury. Cant do any welding on the bumpers or brackets so it will just be bolted but it should be alright. it might be to much bumper for the front of this little thing but who cares just goin out to have fun.

Ya we are not RVers yet, the wife and I still tent camp it. But its a blast. we'll be gone for a week. Its time to get away from work, responsibilities, derby stuff, all that stuff and just spend time with the Fam. We are going to the Oregon coast. It is so beautiful, and serene there. I'll get some pics up when I get back. My wife reminded me today that I'll only have about 3 weeks to finish this little car and get the big car all buttoned up before the derby on Sept. 25. Nice of her right.

Ok guys here ya go, here are a couple pics of the progress. Got the cage all in, fuel cell, battery box, and it is getting wired up tonight Got the bumper all bolted up on the front, Its a rear from an 80's model mercury monarch, should be pretty tuff for this little car with the rules we have. Also got the spring spacers in the front strut springs, no welding so I had to get those twist in kind, I hope they dont fall out. Next I'm gonna work on the rear, tuckin the trunk and notching the frame back there dont want it to crush down into the tires. Then get the doors all welded up, chain the hood and trunk down and go tear it up.
