Sorry, I quit adding to this thread cause I didnt have any responses from anyone on things. Here are some progress and results. Alright. Overall the car is DONE!!! Tires are doubled and tubed. We still need to bend the front bumper corners around, add some 9 wire, and chain the engine down. Then we're ready to roll! The derby is this saturday, July 31st. I'll post pictures and results afterwards. Mud tires turned out great doubled. Solid with no sag. Here is our whole team all running at the same derby. Bandit Motorsports.

Bandit motorsports did ok. Jon and Chris were in heat 2 together. But they pushed the monaco out of the arena into a mud pile and his tranny wouldnt go into reverse to get out... Kind of weird on the ruling for that. Jon almost made feature, but 2 cars double teamed him and he got put up on the wall. He ran the consi with me and broke a motor mount. As for me, #00. I ran in heat 1 and was the very first car out! LOL. My battery box shifted forward and pinched the positive cable into a bolt. Then it grounded out and caught on fire. I ran the consi and had a blast!! Destroyed the front clip on one car completely. I won consi and made the feature, but had to pull out of the feature because of a hole in my oil pan. It wasnt worth running the feature with a car I knew would make it 3 minutes then blow up. My thunderbird will be back for sure next year. With a new engine mount setup, a new pan and everything ready to go again. Look for pics and videos to come.

OK here are the long awaited pictures. Ready to go in the pits. Rear frame started to bend by the body mounts. The frame bent for a little bit at the notches, but then a big hit kinked it back by those body mounts instead. Overall, the rear of the car did pretty good. It didnt fold exactly how I wanted it, but half way. Trunk lid idea worked great. Never had a problem with front bumper height. The only thing damaged up front is my corfe support bolt snapped off. I'm not sure how we are going to get a new washer and bolt in there because the bumper shock tubes go through the frame underneath. So you cant reach up from the bottom to add a new bolt and washer. We got all of next summer to work on it. Couple pics from the derby itself. This was the hit that shifted my battery forward and caught the cable on fire. Heres our other team mates. The blue monaco lost reverse and starter went out. The black and grey 72 olds was triple teamed and put on the wall. My ford engine has now been through 3 heats, 2 features and 1 consi. With it Never stalling once yet during the derby. it will be on its 4th year next summer.

Sorry, I quit adding to this thread cause I didnt have any responses from anyone on things. I am happy to see u followed through on this thread. While I don't post I alway read them. The Builds in progress are my favorite section of this forum. So if u are postin builds don't think no one is reading or interested, cause I know we are. This was a great thread. And if I were to comment it would be something stupid like, the paint wasn't as fancy this time around. LOL. But the car looks good out there.

Very well said madmax, I always read any new posts,,,,some times I just don't have much to say about a paticular car. but thanks for posting, Whenever a build is documented from start to finish it will really help someone else who is going to run one of these cars. I need to find time to do this with more of my builds as well.

I will be starting work on the Thunderbird again in March. I have a half page list of things to change on this car. It will be going back to the same derby as before, at the end of July. So far a few things I have planned: -Pull trunk back down, and curl rear bumper a little upwards. -Re-design the frame notches customed to how the trunk is now rolling. -Fixing front core support bolt mounts -More 9 wire! -More front height -Fix *&^%#!! brakes to actually work this time. -_- -Design a Distributor protector for a Ford? -Welding more support to motor mounts -Sitting engine up higher away from steering and fixing oil pan hole -Battery will NOT move out of place this time! Look forward to pictures and progress by mid march when I go home for spring break.

Throw that rad support as far away as possible and put one out of an 80s style gm in it. I've been told by several people that this is the way to go, and after the last 74-78 ford we had I'll agree 100%
