Well i'm bored over winter waiting for spring, so I figured I'd start this thread now. I will be building my first compact this summer. It is a 1990 Ford Taurus with the only rust being body rust by the doors. I will be running it in August in a welded compact derby. This thing should be a pretty solid tank once i'm done with it. A few details of the build I have planned: -Solid welded suspension front and back. -Doubled front mud tires, donuts on rear -Doors welded shut -Trunk tucked, welded, and all thread going through trunk floor -Fully loaded metal front bumper -Front and rear window bars -6 All thread rods holding hood down -Front hood folded down as shield, 9 wire from hood to bumper also -Entire core support seam welded -Angle iron welded to core support -Tie rods reinfroced -Entire car creased, in, out, under and over. Plenty more, but thats the basics of it. Looking forward to being creative with this car.

Heres a rough sketch I made while zoning out at college. Should be something like this when I'm done building it.

looks like its gonna be nice and if you could in some way strengthen the axle shafts up front so they dont break if you get hit

Make sure you get rid of the inertia switch, or you will be dead in the water after the first hit.

Started on the Taurus! You guys will be ahead of things compared to my youtube channel. Videos will be delayed based off of real life happenings in order to cover the month of April i'm in college. Stripped out the trunk. Very clean car so far! Started on the interior. I will have a whole video segment featuring the gutting of this car.

i would cut out or bend out the back half of the wheel wells seince the back is going to go in so it won't take out the tires

I have 14 or 13 inch rims to put on the back. Should give a lot of wheel clearence, plus solid suspension to keep max height in the rear.
Anyones thoughts on what size rim would be better? 13 inch or 14?

on a side note, are u running a rear bumper? if i were u id go to a junk yard or something and just find a chrome skin and weld that on, just to hold the frame rails together

We always run donuts on the rear, provide clearance, slide along easy when they do get locked up, and almost as good as a stuffed tire.
